Q: This is for a science project please be as detailed as possible and please give the sources. Thank you.
A: The basic answer is that the pigment molecules absorb UV light (this is the excitation frequency). The electrons get bumped up a shell layer and as they fall back to the rest state they put out a lower-energy wavelength of light (this is the emission frequency). Anything fluorescent works the same way, absorbs one color and puts out a lower wavelength color.
I'd like to put the poster I bought on the wall near my bed, but I'd rather not install the black light fixture there. Would it still have the same effect if I installed the fixture somewhere else in the room?
